What’s one over looked ingredient that can help create a successful business?

I came across this lovely post by Richard Branson, founder of Virgin, today. It made me hesitate to stop and think, “Why am I business?”. What’s my ‘why’?
Well, to be honest I can sum it up in one word: Freedom. Freedom to create my own schedule. Freedom to work with whom I choose (or not). Freedom to set the rules. Freedom to run things the way I see fit.
Truth be told, I should have been in business for myself a long, long time ago. I didn’t have the confidence – quite simply, I didn’t believe I could do it. Now? Extenuating life circumstances forced me to take that leap of faith. Once I made the leap, I haven’t looked back. Not once.
So, what’s one overlooked ingredient that can help to create a successful business? Know your why. It’s true what they say – if you’re in it just for the money, well…in the long run I don’t see how that can work.
Here’s why
There are days when I simply am on overload. You know, that thing called life. It can get a little overwhelming at times, right? But here’s what has always snapped my focus right back into place: the thought of compromising my freedom. I swear, it gets me out of bed on those days I’d rather skip right on out to the beach. The consequences of losing my freedom is too great a price to pay.
Here’s what I also came to realize about this lovely motivating factor I treasure so much. It enables me to pass that value back over to my clients. I understand, I know how critical it is that my clients have the freedom to arrange their time so that they can focus on growing their business.
It might seem like a simple, ‘Well duh!’ But when you really stop to think about WHY you’re in the business you’re in, I can almost guarantee your focus will be back on point.
